GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator Michael Anagnostakis is a member of the Republican majority on the county legislature, but he is going to caucus with the Independence Party. Legislator Michael Amo is the sole member of the Independence Party, but he announced on Friday that Anagnostakis will be caucusing with him from now on.
“The Independence caucus is open to all legislators regardless of what party they are registered in,” said Amo. “We have an open door policy for all meetings and the public is even welcome to attend.”
Anagnostakis said he has “never fit into a process that operates behind closed doors. I’ve always been an independent-minded Republican – doing what’s best for the taxpayers and not the political insiders, and that is what I will continue to do.”
Anagnostakis will remain a registered Republican leaving the legislature with its 15 Republican member majority with five Democrats and one Independence Party member.
