Surgeries cancelled today

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Mechanical issues with surgical tray sterilization
equipment have prompted Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of
Wallkill to cancel surgeries for today, Friday.
“Hospital administrators and quality control personnel are conducting
an extensive root cause analysis of the matter to determine the source
of the malfunctioning equipment,” said spokeswoman Marcy Manheim.
“We expect to resume normal surgical operations as soon as the situation
is rectified.”

Manheim said the hospital has the ability to safely perform inpatient
emergency surgeries should a critical need arise; “however, we have
advised local EMS and other providers that we are diverting any new surgical
and trauma cases to other facilities at the present time.”

She said patients treated at Orange Regional prior to today, Friday, are
not impacted by the present situation.

The hospital cancelled surgeries “out of an abundance of caution
and adherence to patient safety guidelines.”
