MIDDLETOWN – Orange and Rockland Utilities has completed the conversion of the last low-pressure system in the company’s more than 1,800-mile natural gas delivery system to high-pressure.
Company officials said the completion of the multi-year, multi-million project will improve system safety and reliability and reduce the environmental impact of its natural gas service.
With the completion of its $4.8 million gas main replacement project in Middletown, O&R has removed all cast-iron pipe – some over 100 years old – from its entire gas distribution system.
In addition to Middletown, O&R has replaced cast-iron gas pipes and upgraded to a high-pressure gas delivery system most recently in Port Jervis.
