Unemployment rate drops across region

ALBANY – The unemployment rate in Hudson Valley and Catskill counties in September was down at least one percent from the same month last year, the state labor department reported on Tuesday.
The biggest decrease in unemployment was in Sullivan County, which saw a drop of 1.2 percent, going from 4.7 percent in September 2017 to 3.5 percent during the same month this year.
Ulster, Dutchess and Putnam each saw 1.0 percent declines in joblessness – all three counties dropped from 4.4 percent last year to 3.4 percent this September.
Orange County unemployment declined by 1.1 percent from 4.7 percent to 3.6 percent.
Greene County declined 1.1 percent from 4.8 percent to 3.7 percent.
Rockland and Westchester counties each declined by one percent – Rockland from 4.5 percent to 3.5 percent and Westchester from 4.6 percent to 3.6 percent.
Columbia County joblessness dropped by 0.8 percent, going from 3.6 percent to 2.8 percent, the lowest in the region.
The state’s rate of unemployment in September was 4.1 percent.
