KINGSTON – Despite impassioned appeals a year ago from many residents and some legislators, the Ulster County Legislature declared memorializing resolutions irrelevant because they carry no power of law.  They are frequently used by governing bodies to ‘send messages’ to state legislatures or Congress.
Tuesday night, during a 24-minute monthly meeting, they quietly came back, much to the delight of Democrat Minority Leader Hector Rodriguez.
“I want to go and actually commend this legislature on Resolution 275 which is permitting memorializing resolutions and we are very proud to have that back,” Rodriguez said.
The restoration came on a unanimous vote with no discussion.
