Woman arrested for smuggling drugs into Ulster County Jail

KINGSTON – A contract employee at the Ulster County Jail was arrested and charged with smuggling drugs and tobacco into the facility for inmates.
Katrina Mitchell, 44, of Kerhonkson, was arrested on Thursday, October 11 following an investigation by sheriff’s detectives. She is a commissary clerk employed by a private company under contract with the jail.
Detectives and members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team conducted an operation in the Town of Rosendale that resulted in Mitchell’s arrest as she was conducting a transaction to receive opiate pharmaceuticals to smuggle into the jail for sale to inmates.
Mitchell was charged with two counts of attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance, four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of attempted promoting prison contraband and a misdemeanor of criminal possession.  She is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $25,000 bond.
