SHAWANGUNK – A female corrections officer was injured at the Wallkill Correctional Facility in the Town of Shawangunk, according to an internal assault alert obtained by Mid-Hudson News.
This incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on October 5. It was the latest in a number of assaults on officers in area state prisons in recent months.
During security rounds in a housing unit, the female officer ordered an inmate to get up from his bed and follow cell compliance. The inmate yelled at her in words or substance of “I got something for you!” The officer ordered the inmate to face a wall and as he began to assume the ‘pat frisk’ position, he suddenly swung at her head with his elbow, but she was able to block it with her left arm.
As the officer tried to place him back on the wall, the inmate swung around with his right arm, hitting her in the right side of her face with his elbow. She activated her personal alert system and other officers came running to take control of the inmate.
The officer was taken to a local hospital and did not remain on duty.
