PORT JERVIS – Port Jervis still has its eyes on about 110 acres presently part of the Town of Deerpark.
Mayor Kelly Decker said during Tuesday night’s common council meeting that they are moving from phase one to phase two.
“The next phase is to go into a scope of services with them. In Phase Two, which also following the scope with the town and the city are now at a point of advancing the project forward. Immediate steps would include acquire petitions from the property owners.”
Decker said other near-future steps would include a “declaration of intent.”
Most of the land the city wants is in Tri-States. A smaller piece, just north of the city in the Huguenot area of Deerpark, is around the Port Jervis School District complex that houses the high school and Anna S. Kuhl Elementary.
Both municipalities have agreed there would be a mutual benefit because of the opportunity for new economic activity and jobs for residents of the city and the town.
During a public hearing last May, opinions were mixed. Some wondered if commercial development is the best use for the land in the already busy and often congested Tri-States gateway.
