NEWBURGH – City Manager Michael Ciaravino will present his proposed 2019 Newburgh city budget to the council Tuesday night and it doesn’t look like it is going to be a pretty one.
The cash-strapped city will continue to face hard financial times, the manager warned council members.
“No doubt in order to meet the funding requirements of the SAFER grant as well as to account for increases in health care and a number of other items, which I hope to have itemized for Tuesday night’s meeting, I anticipate there will be a tax increase and that the tax increase will have to exceed the tax cap,” Ciaravino said.
The cost of covering normal expenses coupled with rapidly deteriorating infrastructure including municipal buildings, water and sewer lines, and crumbling streets, continues to plague Newburgh and tax its overextended pocketbook.
