Improved cell coverage progressing in Harriman State Park and PIP

NEW WINDSOR – Improving the weak, and often, dead cellphone service in Harriman State Park and the Palisades Interstate Parkway, will be a thing of the past as the Palisades Interstate Park Commission is working to improve and install new service.
State Senator William Larkin said the process for siting the infrastructure has moved into the state environmental review phase.
“Having adequate cell coverage, especially on roads that are so frequently traveled is important for public safety,” said Larkin.
“This remains a serious concern for many residents of southern Orange and northern Rockland counties,” said Stony Point Town Councilman Thomas Basile, who is running to replace the retiring Larkin. “Having experienced first-hand the dangers of this digital blackout, I know the real consequences that the lack of service can have for motorist.”
Basile also said the service blackout is also an important issue for hikers in the park “and expanded coverage would protect our outdoor recreation opportunities.”
