Otalaro
GREENPORT – A domestic argument in a vehicle resulted in one person stabbing the other while driving near the intersection of Route 23 and Route 9 in the Town of Greenport, locally known as Buckley’s Corners.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office charged Francisco Otalaro, 26, of Cairo, with felony assault and misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon. The knife was recovered at the scene. Deputies said Otalaro made admissions as to his involvement in the assault. He was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
The wounded party was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson and later released.
Sheriff David Bartlett said a Good Samaritan had stopped at the scene to render assistance to the victim before police arrived. “Had this individual not stopped to help the victim, the outcome of this case could have been much different,” he said.
