NEW YORK – Postal inspectors and Village of Pelham Police have arrested three people for stealing mail from the blue collection boxes in Pelham and New Rochelle.
Those crimes often occurred after dark when most residents are in their homes and when the suspects believed no one was watching.
Arrested were Jonathan Jimenez, 23, Luis Gonzalez-Morell, 23, and Martin Reyes-Maria, 21, all from the Bronx. They are all charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property. All three were allegedly in possession of stolen mail.
Authorities began surveillance after receiving complaints from the public about stolen mail in early summer.
On October 1, the three were identified in the act of attempted to steal mail. Two were caught at the scene and one fled but was later arrested.
