NEWBURGH – The issue of fair, decent and adequate rental housing in the City of Newburgh has been a front burner issue in recent months with several residents complaining about the condition of the apartments they are rented by landlords.
With that backdrop, City Councilman Anthony Grice wants to revive the
fair housing initiative.
“We have a fair housing office – it’s part of our charter – it has not been active and so if we can have something that we can present to all of the council members so that we can look to re-establishing that,” Grice said.
Many Newburgh renters noted recently that building owners have a landlords association, so renters should form a tenants association to put some muscle behind their issues of safe and clean housing.
