BUCHANAN – The emergency notification sirens for the Indian Point nuclear power plants will be tested between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. tonight (Wednesday).
The system is tested quarterly. The public is not required to respond during the siren sounding.
In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to turn in to a local emergency activation system radio or TV station for important information and direction.
The stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile emergency planning zone around Indian Point.
