EMS personnel work at the scene of Monday afternoon’s Route 17 crash
near Monticello.

MONTICELLO – A five-year-old girl was ejected and killed in a two-car
crash on Route 17 westbound near exit 105B Monday afternoon.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office provided updated information
including that the child was not in a car seat; that was in the back of
the pickup truck in which they were riding being driven by her father.

The father and his other daughter, a 14-year-old, were critically injured
and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

The family had recently moved from the Bronx to Rochester and was in the
process of bringing belongings to their new home.

Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said their truck crossed the
highway median and struck an eastbound pickup truck carrying a family
of four back home to Long Island. Three members were treated and released
at Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. The mother
suffered possible fractured ribs.

The State Police reconstruction team was investigating the accident.

This is the second fatal accident in 24 hours on Route 17. Another occurred
near exit 116 in Mamakating on Saturday evening when person was ejected
from a vehicle. Details of that incident have not yet been made public.
