NEW WINDSOR – A Poughkeepsie man was sentenced in Orange County Court today Friday following his guilty plea to first-degree robbery in connection with a January 2, 2018 robbery and serious injury of a man in the parking lot of a New Windsor Speedway station.
County Court Judge William DeProspo sentenced Anthony Abbott, 35, to 14 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
On the afternoon of January 2, 2018, Abbott entered the Speedway on Windsor Highway in New Windsor, stole several cans of Red Bull, and fled the store. Abbott then got into the car the victim had pulled up to a gas pump in and after a struggle with the victim, Abbott drove the car over the victim dragging him some distance through the parking lot before fleeing in the car.
The victim was seriously injured by Abbott’s actions, suffering, among other injuries, a broken hip, fractured femur, and a missing tooth, and was hospitalized for several days.
“Senseless, drug-fueled violence cannot be tolerated in our society, and we will continue to fight for the innocent people of our county, so that they can safely go about their business, free from the kinds of criminal acts perpetrated by people like this defendant,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
