POUGHKEEPSIE – A Modena man was arrested by Poughkeepsie City Police early Wednesday following an attempted armed robbery.
The driver, Michael Fazio, 22, is charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and a violation for marijuana possession. Other charges may be filed.
Fazio was the wheelman following the attempted robbery at a Carroll Street residence.
Two victims told police one of them had arranged to meet a woman for sex. When the woman arrived, two others wearing masks were with her. One had a gun. The masked suspects attempted to rob one of the victims. When he resisted, the person with the gun fired two rounds.
A friend of the victim came out to help and a struggle ensued.
At least one more round was fired during the struggle.
The victims got the handgun away from the suspect before the would-be robbers fled in an SUV driven by Fazio.
A 9mm handgun was recovered at the victims’ house.
When officers caught Fazio, they found a live 9mm handgun in his home.
A search of his vehicle recovered a live 9 mm round, several unloaded magazines, an empty box of 9mm ammunition, a bag of marijuana and methamphetamine.
The handgun recovered is known as a “ghost gun” which is a gun that is 80 percent completed when it is legally sold. It has no identifying marks on it and because it is not finished, it is not considered a working firearm. The buyer would then complete the other 20 percent of the work and have a working weapon.
The investigation into the identities of the others involved is continuing.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department at 845-451-7577.
