TOWN OF WALLKILL – Over 1,000 live chickens were dumped in cages
from a large tractor-trailer truck when it tipped over on its side as
the driver was on the Interstate exit 4 ramp in the Town of Wallkill.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday spilling the poultry
down a grassy embankment. Many of the animals were killed, said State
Police Troop F spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel.
He believed the load was being transported to a poultry processing facility
in Sullivan County.
It took several hours for the mess to be cleaned up.
The driver was treated and released at Orange Regional Medical Center
in Wallkill.
