OSSINING – The Village
of Croton-on-Hudson was alerted on Thursday about a large sewage spill
at the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities Crotonville
pump station. The facility is on the shore of the Croton River in the
Town of Ossining.

Croton-on-Hudson officials said they were not notified of the spill until
Thursday.

Croton village officials wrote in an e-news alert late Wednesday afternoon
that the county did not notify the village of the spill until Thursday.
“There would have been no impact to Silver Lake Beach as it is located
upstream from the spill. They said the river water in the vicinity of
Mayo’s Landing and the Echo Canoe Launch were potentially impacted
by the spill on Wednesday.

Croton officials receive notice on Thursday of a sewage discharge in Ossining
from 12:45 p.m. until 3:55 p.m. on Thursday. The discharge was estimated
to be about 300 gallons per minute.

The county message said the discharge was to the Croton River, which discharges
to the Hudson River. “At this time, no impact on the Croton River
is expected” from the discharge, the memo stated.
