LAGRANGE – State Police are continuing to investigate the homicide of a Poughkeepsie woman 12 years ago.
On August 4, 2006 at about 3:55 p.m., police were dispatched to 123 Mountain Road in the Town of LaGrange to investigate the discovery of human remains.
Two Dutchess County residents were walking the old Port Farm on Mountain Road when they located what appeared to be a human hand partially buried in a shallow grave and called 911.
On August 16, 2016, the victim was identified as Sonia Centeno. Several leads have been followed up; however, the murder has never been solved.
Centeno, then 44, was described as a Hispanic female, about five feet, three inches tall, weighing about 117 pounds, with a winged lion tattoo on her chest.
She was reported to have been seen in the Main Street area of Poughkeepsie during the winter of 2006.
When she was discovered, Centeno was wearing black high heeled ankle booties, blue fleece Okemo Ski area zip-up vest, and a dark colored tunic.
Police believe she may have been dead for between three and seven months.
