Kingston woman indicted for stealing from church and elderly priest

KINGSTON – A former church secretary/bookkeeper was indicted on 63 counts by an Ulster County grand jury for stealing from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston and from its elderly priest.
Amanda Weiss, 29, also known as Zehnick, of Kingston, allegedly stole $55,441 between July 2015 and May 2017.  
The grand jury charged her with two counts of grand larceny, 26 counts of forgery, 31 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, one count each of scheme to defraud, offering a false instrument for filing, and two counts of criminal tax fraud.
Irregularities in the church’s bookkeeping were brought to the attention of the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, which investigated with the assistance of the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
