Using old TZB panels will save time and money on the new Corwin Bridge

MOUNT HOPE – Construction has begun on the Corwin Bridge on Route 11 in the Town of Mount Hope. It will be one of the first in the state that will use repurposed panels from the old Tappan Zee Bridge.
Using the old bridge panels on county projects will save local taxpayers some $770,000, said Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus. Use of those panels is expected to reduce construction time and cost of the project by more than $160,000.
The county obtained 14 of the TZ Bridge panels, each worth about $55,000. The remainder of the 150 panels were distributed throughout the state.
The panels will be used in Orange County to build four highway bridges and two rail-to-trail bridges, said DPW Commissioner Erik Denega.
The Corwin Bridge carries County Route 11, known as Mount Hope Road, over the Shawangunk Kill in Mount Hope.
