Day (podium) explains the plan

NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive Edwin Day unveiled the county’s proposed shared services plan for 2019 and 2020 that is expected to save the county’s towns, villages, school districts and fire districts over $9.1 million next year and over $14.3 million in 2020.
Big ticket items will save taxpayers sizeable amounts of money through sharing, Day noted.
“The highlights of the preliminary plan include an estimated $4.5 million in savings for pooled retiree health insurance for municipal employees,” he said.
Another large savings of over $1.4 million would come from the sharing of highway department street line paint trucks for towns and villages and the county providing municipal engineering services to towns and villages for highway and drainage projects.
Smaller savings would include Rockland BOCES possibly contracting with
the villages of Haverstraw and West Haverstraw to provide educational
experiences for youth participants in their summer recreational programs
with a projected savings of $12,000 in 2019 and $15,000 in 2020.
A total of 30 shared services are proposed.
