GOSHEN – Following the Supreme Court Janus v. AFSCME Supreme Court ruling allowing public sector unionized workers to obtain the benefits of union membership without contributing financially to a union, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has signed an executive order to protect county workers.
In his order signed Thursday, July 26, Neuhaus said, “there is concern expressed by some that efforts will be made to unnecessarily identify the home addresses and personal information of unionized workers, in an effort to persuade them to opt out of public sector union membership” and that it is “important that government employment not interfere in their personal lives to the extent that, among other things, personal information is publicly released.”
Neuhaus’ order states that no county entity may disclose the home address, personal telephone number of personal e-mail address of a public employee except to an employee organization that is the “certified or recognized bargaining representative of a unit of public employees.”
His order does not apply to work-related, publicly available information such as title, salary, and dates of employment.
Ulster County Executive Michael Hein recently signed a similar order to prevent what he said was an attempt at union busting.
