TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A live
hand grenade was discovered at the Orange County solid waste transfer
station off Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh on Monday as a county worker
located it while compressing waste.

It was spotted in a pile of garbage.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office requested a State Police Bomb
Disposal Unit to the scene. Members responded and determined the device
was, in fact, a live grenade.

Bomb Disposal Unit members safely took possession of the grenade and were
to render it safe at the Troop F firing range.
