Dubois:
“… whatever is best for
their business”

TOWN OF WALLKILL – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is offering local county businesses a site assessment and customized action plan for an active shooter situation.
Sheriff’s officials presented an outline of their service to the Orange County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday and informed local business leaders of ways they can keep their workplaces safe, as well as prepared, should the worst happen.
Businesses that are interested in getting site assessments and customized training can contact the sheriff’s office where they will facilitate a program, explained Assistant Undersheriff Anthony Weed.
“Once a site assessment is done and we get that report done, we’ll email that back to them [the business], we’ll give them a hard copy and then we’ll schedule a training event, which is a two hour block of instruction, power-point based and we go over the specifics of ‘Run-Hide-Fight’, we go over the specifics of the document that we presented to them on how to secure their businesses,” said Weed. “We try to change the mindset of their employees, and the management, to stop thinking about convenience because as soon as we give up a few things for convenience, we give up security.”
Sheriff Carl DuBois said the effort is to promote safety in county workplaces.
The customized programs are completely funded, as well as staffed by the
department and Dubois said they are intent on being flexible with businesses
to be available for their scheduling.
“They’ll set it up and set up a schedule and do whatever is best for the business,” said Dubois. “Sometimes they can’t have all their employees together at one time and certain times of the day, and other times that we can. So, we’re basically flexible and we’ll facilitate that to accommodate the business because we know there are certain business hours that we can’t get everybody together.”
This service is available for any county business that is interested. They are directed to contact the sheriff’s office for Assistant Undersheriff Weed or Lt. Duane Lopez for information and scheduling.
