KINGSTON – A State Supreme Court ruling that dismissed an attempt to halt construction of the Ashokan Rail Trail in Ulster County is being hailed by County Executive Michael Hein.
The suit had been filed by the Ulster and Delaware Railroad Revitalization Corp.
Hein said the dismissal of the suit by Justice Schreibman will benefit the county in terms of full use of the trail.
“We have a wonderful tourism train operation that can now expand into their entire permitted area. We have something called rail-biking that is taking place… in the Phoenicia area… it’s called Railed Explorers, and we are building a world-class trail system along the Ashokan Reservoir that is going to be nothing less than breath-taking.”
Hein also said he plans to develop a “transformational linear park to Midtown Kingston” to provide recreational opportunities and better access to low-cost, high-quality food for some of the community’s most disadvantaged families.
