Woman killed by freight train in Kingston

KINGSTON – A woman walking along railroad tracks at the Flatbush Avenue rail crossing in Kingston was struck and killed by a CSX train Friday night.
Kingston City Police said a witness, who was stopped in his car at the railroad crossing gates, said he saw the woman walking across the tracks toward Foxhall Avenue when she was struck by a northbound train.
The witness told police the crossing gates were functioning and in the down position at the time of the accident.
The witness, a retired Kingston fireman, gave first aid to the woman until police arrived a moment later. Police provided additional medical attention until EMS arrived.
The woman was transported to the Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital Broadway Campus where she died. Police did not immediately release the victim’s identity.
Kingston Police were assisted by the Kingston Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services ambulance and CSX Police.
The investigation is continuing.
