Two men rescued from car in reservoir

MAHOPAC – Two men are lucky to be alive after their car drove off Washington Road in Mahopac Friday afternoon and plunged into the West Branch Reservoir.
Carmel Police responded to the 9-1-1 call and arrived on the scene within minutes managing to tie a rope from the police cruiser to the overturned vehicle preventing it from drifting further into the water.
Mahopac Fire Department personnel broke the windshield of the overturned car and pulled the occupants to safety.
Both were taken by ambulance to Putnam Hospital Center where they were checked out in the emergency room and were later released.
Also assisting were members of the Mahopac Falls Fire Department and paramedics from the EM STAR Ambulance Company.
Police said an investigation into the cause of the crash was continuing.
