McGuire at war memorial at county building

KINGSTON – Dennis McGuire has been serving the public for decades.
He served in the US Army completing a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 and became a state trooper for a 20-year career.
At 73 while most his age would be enjoying retirement, McGuire is a part-time security officer for the Ulster County Sheriff’s Offices and this past week he was alerted by a witness that a man had just removed a set of commemorative military dog tags from the war memorial in front of the Ulster County Office Building on Fair Street in Kingston.
McGuire and Deputy Deborah Prusack located Jeris Lincoln, 29, who is homeless, walking down Fair Street, still wearing the stolen dog tags.
Lincoln was stopped, taken into custody, charged with petit larceny and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100 cash bail or $200 bond.
Aside from his continued police work, McGuire is the chief of the Hillside Volunteer Fire Department in Rhinebeck, commander of American Legion Post 429 in Rhinebeck and a part-time security officer at Northern Dutchess Hospital and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
As for the stolen dog tags, McGuire returned them to the memorial where they are a reminder of the men and women who did not return home from service.
