Spring Valley man charged with attempted murder at after-prom event

NEW CITY – A 20-year-old Spring Valley man has been charged in
a three-count indictment with attempted murder, assault and attempted
assault following a knife attack at an after-prom party.

It is alleged that on May 25 the victim was attending an after-prom party
at the Déjà vu Island Grill in Nanuet. The party was attending
by several local high schools.

At about 3 a.m., as the victim was leaving, Ahkim Santana of Spring Valley,
who was known to him, approached him and slashed his neck.

Santana fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to Nyack Hospital where he required 26 stitches
to close a five-inch laceration.

Following investigation, Clarkstown Police arrested Santana without incident.
He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail pending
a future court appearance.

If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in state prison.
