GREENWOOD LAKE – A local man has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after Greenwood Lake Police found him asleep and drunk while his four-year-old son wandered around outside.
Police received a report of the young boy was found covered in dirt, sweating and barefoot, running in the road on Monday.
The child told bystanders he climbed out of a basement window to look for his sister. He told them where he lived and said his father, Anthony Serpe, was asleep. They brought him to the house after feeding him and giving him something to drink but could not contact the father.
Police arrived and also tried to contact Serpe by phone without success so they gained entry to the residence and found him asleep on a living room couch. When they woke him up, Serpe showed signs of intoxication. He was then charged with child endangerment and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail.
