POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man was arrested early Friday morning after he failed to comply.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Stephen Tillery, 34, was being interviewed by a sheriff’s sergeant at 3:20 a.m. on Winnikee Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie. Tillery was suspected of being wanted on a state mental health law order for emergency hospitalization, which is typically issued when someone is thought to be a danger to themselves and others to the degree that they require immediate treatment.
During the interview, Tillery fled in a vehicle, after which he failed to comply when deputies and officers from other agencies tried to stop him. Tillery continued to fail to comply until he reached Interstate 84 and Route 312, where he was ultimately stopped and taken into custody.
Tillery was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a vehicle and reckless driving, both as misdemeanors, as well as vehicle and traffic violations. He was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by police from the Town of Poughkeepsie, State Police and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
