TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A Brooklyn man is in the Orange County Jail
without bail following his arrest on the Thruway in the Town of Newburgh.
State Police stopped to assist a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the highway at about 1:50 a.m. on Friday.
During the interview of the driver, troopers developed probable cause to search the vehicle and its occupants. That search revealed Alaaden Gazali, 21, of Brooklyn was in possession of 72 grams of khat, or cathinone, a banned herbal stimulant.
Gazali was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.
