Main entrance sign on Route 207 covered, pending name change?

STEWART AIRPORT – The large signs at both entrances welcoming people to “Stewart International Airport” are covered with brown plastic, as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey prepares for a formal name change for the Newburgh area facility.
In an effort to align the airport with the New York metropolitan area and attract more airline service and passengers, the new name will be “New York-Stewart International Airport.”
Exactly when that change will occur has yet to be announced, but it apparently
is coming sooner than later as is evidenced by the present entrance signs
being covered over.
A port Authority spokeswoman said the process for the name change is
ongoing and the agency is working to complete it as early as possible.

The agency had first proposed changing the name to New York International
Airport at Stewart Field to retain the Stewart family name, but Stewart
family members balked. That led to the compromise with the new name.
