Blue Hole

TOWN OF DENNING – A new stewardship program has been put in place to preserve the Peekamoose Blue Hole in the Sundown Wild Forest of the Catskill Park.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation in coordination with
the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the Catskill
Center and Rondout Neversink Stream Program, is providing two stewards
at the Blue Hole on weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through
October, said DEC Natural Resources Supervisor Bill Rudge.
“Their role is education and interpretation,” Ridge said. “We will continue to field forest rangers and environmental conservation officers at the Blue Hole and those people do have enforcement powers.”
The stewardship program was developed to help protect natural resources, including water quality, while ensuring public safety. The stewards will be paid employees of the Catskill Center.
