A solemn salute in Putnam County
PUTNAM COUNTY – Memorial Day, the day set aside to remember with gratitude and pride all those who served and died for our country and freedom, wasn’t diminished in any way despite inclement weather on Sunday.
Large crowds attended Memorial Day observances in Mahopac, Brewster, Putnam Lake, Patterson and Cold Spring.
On Sunday, traditional ceremonies took place in Lake Carmel and Carmel despite damp and chilly weather conditions.
Amidst the red, white and blue of Old Glory, the theme of Memorial Day was recited time and time again: “We honor the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who gave their lives to protect our country–to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to their families, we thank you!”
