Police ID Monticello murder suspect, victim

MONTICELLO – Following a joint investigation involving State Police,
Town of Fallsburg Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the
County District Attorney’s Office, Monticello Police announced the
arrest of Howard Sanders 19, of Loch Sheldrake on Monday. Sanders was
charged with second degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and
tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.  He is held without
bail.
The victim of the early Sunday morning murder is Lawrence Burns, 19, of Brooklyn, whose body was found on the ground at the Monticello Meadows apartment complex at 91 Shaker Heights Drive. Preliminary autopsy determination has revealed that Burns suffered gunshots wounds to the head.
Crack cocaine and suboxone were also discovered inside the apartment, for which Gerrod Lucas, 22, was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and misdemeanor criminal possession.  Lucas is in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
