HIGHLAND MILLS – State Assemblyman James Skoufis (D, Woodbury)
will announce his future political plans on Monday.

He has called a noon campaign event, but on Friday would not say what
that announcement will be.

The lawmaker has been urged to run for the 39th District Senate post being
vacated by the retiring Republican William Larkin and he has acknowledged
he was considering it.

Whether he will opt to seek another term in the Assembly or run for the
Senate seat remains to be seen. In a memo to his supporters, Skoufis did
not reveal his intention, but just invited them to his event to be held
at Palaia Winery in Highland Mills.

Skoufis has already filed a Senate campaign committee with the state board
of elections.

If he decides to run, he will face the either Republican Thomas Basile
or Michael Anagnostakis.
