HAMLET OF WALLKILL – Former Wallkill School Board President Dennis O’Mara died in a fire in the Chatham Manor Apartments in Chatham on Sunday.
O’Mara recently retired from the school board after 28 years, Superintendent Kevin Castle said on Tuesday.
“While on the Wallkill Board of Education, he served on many committees and was a visible supporter of many home and away athletic activities and concerts he attended,” Castle said. He was “an outstanding and excellent role model for both adults and students,” the superintendent wrote in a letter to the community. “The Wallkill learning community was fortunate to have him as an acquaintance and friend. His guidance and direction as a board member strengthened the bond between the community and the district.”
