Raging inferno

FALLSBURG –A fast moving brush fire destroyed at least 27 unoccupied
buildings in two adjacent bungalow colonies on Wednesday. The cause is
unknown.

The tanker task force multiple alarm fire brought out firefighters from
several departments to the Route 42 and Gamble Road area in Fallsburg
as winds whipped from home to home.

A total of 39 fire departments from Ulster, Orange and Delaware counties
have now been called in to aid in the Sullivan County operations.

Three firefighters were injured, according to Sullivan County Public Safety
Commissioner Rick Sauer. Two were treated for heat exhaustion and smoke
inhalation and one suffered an arm injury.

Firefighters on the scene called for more water and manpower as the fire
raged on.

Fire departments began returning from the scene during the evening hours.

Sauer reminded people that the state has a ban on outdoor burning through
May 14.
