Lee: “blended city”

NEWBURGH – Former Newburgh city councilwoman Gay Lee announced
Thursday that she will run for mayor this fall.
Lee will face Mayor Torrance Harvey, who was named interim mayor this
week following the death of Mayor Judy Kennedy. Both Harvey and Lee are
Democrats.
Lee said Newburgh is a blended city and everyone must stick together to address the issues of poor quality housing, unemployment, potholes and water quality.
“This is not on behalf of me. This is for the people in the City of Newburgh, some of whom have a lot of difficulty speaking up for themselves they are so overwhelmed by their poverty that they don’t know where to start,” she said. “The people who are new to Newburgh need someone who can hear what they are saying and articulate it to the city manager and articulate it to Albany.”
Whoever wins the mayoral race this fall will serve for the remaining one year of the current four-year term.
