KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Michael Hein has reappointed
county Commissioner of Health and Mental Health to the post in she has
served since 2012.
She has been responsible for the county’s agendas in both fields
and coordinated the full integration of the two departments to streamline
service provision and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.
“Dr. Smith’s tireless dedication to improving the health and
well-being of all the residents of Ulster County is helping to place us
on a path to a healthier future,” said Hein. Her leadership has
helped the county address public health issues ranging from the expansion
of mental health services to overseeing the development of the county
Opioid Task Force, he said.
Dr. Smith said her mission, as she continues her work with the county,
is to make it one of the healthiest in the state.
Her reappointment is subject to confirmation by the county legislature
and state Department of Health,
