ALBANY – The new state budget includes $200,000 for the Village of New Paltz to help offset public safety costs related to hosting SUNY New Paltz.
The funding was secured by Senator John Bonacic (R, Mt. Hope). The village had requested the appropriation.
“While hosting a SUNY institution adds economic vitality to a community, there is still financial stress on the host municipality, including in its policing,” said Bonacic. “These needed funds will help the village defray some of the public safety costs they incur on a daily basis.”
Mayor Tim Rogers said 20 percent of the volunteer fire department’s annual calls are to the college campus so this money will come in handy to offset expenses.
