Westchester man gets prison for car break-in, box cutter attack

WHITE PLAINS – A Yonkers man was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Wednesday) to 12 years in state prison for his conviction stemming from a car break-in in Yonkers in December 2016.
Early on December 14, Jerry Colon broke into a victim’s vehicle in a parking lot at 260 Broadway. The victim was walking to his SUV and saw Colon in it. He attempted to stop Colon and get him to return an iPad and GPS device that he had stolen.
Colon pulled a box cutter which he swung at the victim at least twice, but the victim overcame Colon and held him until police arrived.
In court, he was found guilty of armed robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
