POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro will formally kick off his campaign for the Republican nomination for governor next week in the community in which he began his political career.
Molinaro entered politics as a Tivoli village trustee and then mayor when he was 19 and now, on next Monday, he will kick off his campaign that he hopes will pit him against incumbent Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
“Now more than at any time in our lifetime, New Yorkers need new leadership in the Capitol, which is why I am a candidate for governor,” Molinaro wrote in an invitation to supporters. “I am deeply humbled by the challenge, but my determination is driven by the need.”
He will launch his campaign at Tivoli Village Hall.
On Wednesday, Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor, a conservative Republican, urged fellow conservatives to back Molinaro for the state’s top job saying he “shares our conservative positions on all key state issues.”
Lalor said the GOP hopeful “will streamline the bloated and ineffective state government and ease the burden on long-suffering New York taxpayers.”
