NEW HAMPTON – At a time when local governments are developing solar farms on top of their closed landfills, Orange County is look at the possibility.
County Legislator Barry Cheney, chairman of the Green Committee, said lawmakers feel it is worth exploring.
“It is a pretty large open space, it is fairly steeply sloped for most of it so we have to find out if it is realistic and if it is realistic whether we can get the approvals from the state because it is a closed landfill,” Cheney said.
Orange County has already developed a solar farm at the sheriff’s office-emergency services complex in Goshen.
