WASHINGTON – Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand want to know why some utility companies took so long to restore power to tens of thousands of customers in the Hudson Valley after winter storms Riley and Quinn.
They have written to the head of Con Edison and New York State Electric and Gas.
They also want to know if the companies are following the recommendations made by New York State’s Moreland Commission on Utility Storm Preparation and Response in 2013 after Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, about how to respond effectively after major storm events.
NYSEG services Putnam County and portions of Sullivan and Orange counties.
Con Edison services portions of Westchester County and owns Orange and Rockland Utilities, which services Rockland County and a portion of Orange County.
