NEW CITY – The New York
National Guard is sending members to Rockland County to aid in the storm
relief. Their primary mission will be to assist in removal of downed trees.

On Wednesday evening there was “a significant change in the storm
where many trees came down,” said Rockland County Executive Edwin
Day. “These trees are proving extremely problematic to snow removal
and power restoration.”

Orange and Rockland Utilities is reaching out to Local 17 and Local 754
to have union members provide site safety; freeing up law enforcement
and volunteer firefighters currently handling those functions.

“The goal here is to get the lights turned back on for our residents
as quickly as possible,” said Day.
