Protestors targeted CPV, Cricket Valley, pipelines and more
MT. KISCO – Over 80 people from across the Mid-Hudson Valley rallied in front of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Mt. Kisco home late Sunday afternoon urging him to be a “true climate leader.”
They asked him to release the risk assessment of the Enbridge/Spectra AIM high-pressure transmission gas pipeline at Indian Point that he called for two years ago; that he halt all fossil fuel infrastructure projects including the CPV gas power plant in Wawayanda, Cricket Valley in Dover, Atlantic Bridge, Valley Lateral pipeline and others; and that he transition the state to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030.
One of rally organizers, Sue Van Dolsen, said afterwards that she hopes that he sees “the power” of their gathering.
“We had eight to 10 faith leaders from all different faiths so they are engaged,” Van Dolsen said. “Their congregations know that they participated and it’s leadership on their part to put climate as one of the top issues and I feel that is something that is important because part of this part of this is public education when you do events.”
Paola Dalle Carbonare, cofounder of Healing and Protecting Our Land Together, said they gathered at Cuomo’s house “for the millions of people whose lives are at risk by a pipeline running by their homes or their children’s school and who have to live in constant fear of a possible accident.”
